Lying down on the couch in my living room, lights off, tv on and almost asleep: My phone rang at about 11:00 pm. I looked and it was my oldest sister. I immedietly panicked because that wasn’t like her to call out of nowhere and that late. I answered and she said to get to daddy’s house ASAP. I woke my husband up and told him I was leaving and to watch the kids. I picked up one of my other sisters on the way to my dad’s house and as soon as she got in the car she told me that our dad had died. Crying all the way to his house, I was in shock. It was so weird because I had gotten a few signs but NEVER THOUGHT MY DAD WOULD DIE this soon. Even though my dad had a lot of kids (8 to be exact) with different women, when we were all younger he kept us together and spent a lot of time with us. Didn’t buy us much but we didn’t care. We looked forward to the weekends to all meet up at daddy’s house. We had fun with him. He played games with us. He took us on rides. He loved taking us to the park. He loved to sing to us ….. I still cannot believe my dad is gone.
Instead of wearing the same ol’ funeral black (I LOVE black btw) , my siblings and I decided to have an upbeat funeral and celebrate my daddy’s life. With that, we also decided to wear coral and earth tone colors because my dad was easy going, so down to earth, and chill. He didn’t like the “traditional black church” so we didn’t give him a “traditional black funeral”.
It was so hard trying to find something to wear. We couldn’t find ANYTHING! Nowhere!! Baton Rouge also only has one mall. It was too late to order online (we planned the funeral pretty fast) and local boutiques had a little bit but it just wasn’t working out 🤷🏽♀️.
Walking through the mall for the fourth time in 3 days, I walked in NY and Company and saw a few pieces. I was too short for everything I tried on 😩. Went back AGAIN the next day and found this (pictured). I couldn’t believe it because I never shop in NY and Company. I wore the top and pants with some nude Steve Madden heels I already had at home. I put “Majesty” on my lips from DAP. It all came together at the end.
